Maybe I just wasn't in tune with my body well enough. But I was wondering if anyone out there has experienced it, how common it is and how to tell the difference of if I am starting my period early (cycle day 21 of a very regular 30 day cycle) or if its implantation bleeding? So the questions are: have you ever experienced it? How do you tell the difference? Thank you!

You really won't know if it was implantation bleeding or not until you know you're pregnant. Usually people will notice it shortly before (a couple of days) before period is due or right about the time period is due.
Not everyone has implantation bleeding. If you're starting your period early, then obviously the bleeding will get progressively heavier than just spotting.

Or, it could mean nothing at all. Even women with really regular periods who never have breakthrough spotting CAN get breakthrough spotting for no reason.

I have been pregnant 4 times and did not experience implantation bleeding with any of my pregnancies. It actually is something that few women experience. If it does occur, the bleeding is typically very light, only lasts a day or two and is usually brownish in color. Menstruation typically consists of bright red blood, lasts for more than a couple days, and will have a time frame when the flow is heavier followed by lighter flow that gradually turns brown in color.

If you have implantation bleeding (many women don't) it should happen around the time your period is expected. The only want to know is in "hindsight" or after you take a pregnancy test.

I've never had implantation bleeding or spotting, yet with one of my cycles last year I had spotting around the time of ovulation. Totally random, never happened again.

Never say never.

It never happened to me either. Not every woman experiences it.

You want a laugh? How about my water breaking and I didn't even notice? ;-)
