In the Week 8 rankings Hawaii is indeed ranked but only at 18th overal.
As they are members of a traditionally weaker division, the WAC, once again people will ask - why these teams in divisions such as the WAC do not deserve a higher ranking. Part of the reasoning is historically, these teams do lose, not only sometime during the season, but also very often in the bowl games.
The SEC and Big Ten have successful bowl records and winning records against their non-conference foes, but the WAC teams typically are beaten much. Example: the WAC is a pathetic12-17 in non-conference games; whereas the Big Ten is 31-9 in non-conference games, and the SEC is at 31-5 in non-conference games. Quite a difference for those power rating computer systems to take into account.

Yeah the whole idea of Strength of Schedule holds them back. So if they play REAL teams they would lose all the games, but they play teams of THEIR level and they aren't playing anyone. So it basically tells you they aren't anyone themselves. When was the last time a non-BCS team really proved themselves in a BCS Bowl game? Oh yeah the FIRST one to do it, the Utah Utes when they destroyed Pitt. I know people picked on the idea that Pitt was the Big East champ but come on Utah dismantled them. It wasn't even close. People can talk up Boise State all they want, but they got LUCKY. Urban Myer left Utah as did Alex Smith and others. That was the end of that team.

Because they have the EASIEST schedule out of 119 teams. Because of this schedule, nobody knows how good they are. They should be rewarded for their undefeated status, but they do not deserve BCS mention. Now, if they had scheduled real teams like, let's say, Oregon or some other Pac-10 team, I say Pac-10 because they're closer to Hawaii, those would help show how good they are.

they are ranked in the BCS. you mean why arent they ranked highly in the BCS. i think they are 15 in the BCS. its because they havent beaten any really tough teams. The toughest game they play will be Boise State the last game of the season. Even if they do win that game its very unlikely they will even get a BCS bid. they havent even played BCS eligible teams.

Because they struggled to win against San Jose St. and they don't play anyone. No one wants to see them in a BCS Bowl only to get plowed by a real BCS conference team.

They almost lost to San Jose state and they don't play any teams that are ranked. They should really be playing in Division ll along with Appy State, where they could win it all.

They play an extremely weak schedule. I still think it'd be interesting to see Hawaii take on one of the powerhouses at the end of the year though. In an opening round playoff game!

Because they haven't and don't play anybody.
And please, no one should ever tout the Big Ten's non-conference schedule, as the slate of teams that they've played couldn't compete in the WAC (especially with the conference losing two games to FCS teams).

It's a poll, i see your point, but they aren't because of the whole polling thing. Not enough people like them, so they aren't ranked. I know they are undefeated, but no one looks at that unfortunately.
