Attention people: this is not an overly ridiculous idea, there is a reason for why she asks this.

Her theory is based on the recent and certain interpretation of the writings of the Ancient Mayan Civilization, who through their Calendric system, predicited that the end of the world, or 'The Apocalypse' will be on December 20, 2012.

The reason for why she even considers this is to be possible is because the Mayans have had the worlds most eerily accurate Calendar. It is believed that they were able to predict a lot of things through this calendar, including World War II and the assasination of President Kennedy. Note that these are not vague predictions like that of Nostredamus. They are specific and right to the second.

About the Mayan Calendar: The Mayan Calendar is, according to encyclopedia Brittanica, Micropedia, "Arguably he most elaborate and accurate calendar designed by any civilization." Unlike our calendar, the Gregorian, which incorporates only days, months, years decades, and centuries, the Mayan Calendar incorporates the solstices, the equinoxes, the position of the constellations, the 'governing historical themes' the dates of harvest, moon phases, ages of constellations (age of aquarius, age of pisces), days, seasons, months, AND most important of all, their INTEGRATION and RELATIONSHIP with each other, and the events that they bring. I believe that it was the Mayans who first believed that history repeats itself, not because they thought that the human race was stupid, but because they believed that our civilizations are governed by cycles, and are punctuated by the events that highlight these cycles.

It is rumored that the Mayans even predicted their own demise actually.

Now, are the Mayans right about the Apocalypse? I'd HATE to think so. Perhaps they meant something else by 'Apocalypse' but a lot of scholars, (Mel Gibson not included ) who like to raise intrigue towards the subject matter like to argue otherwise.

I'm a Christian, and since the Mayans had nothing to do with Jesus I highly doubt it. I watched the educational video on how their calculations have been "accurate" in the past in History class--it's a load of poo. It, literally, is a complete coincidence, if you actually read into it, and you'll find it hard to take seriously.

What about the 7-year tribulation period? If the world is ending, wouldn't that have already started in '05?

I do thank you for asking this question, however. You are hereby invited to the currently unplanned End of the World Party, Dec. 12th 2012, in Times Square, where we will play that one Jimmy Buffet song the entire night!!! ("Party at the End of the World")

I believe that is what the mayans said....well they didnt really say it....

the whole basis of this is that the mayans which were highly developed people had a calender system which ended in December 21, 2012 in our calender (they didnt call it 2012). The question is why the calenders they made ended in 2012. One answer is that, this is when they think the world is going to end. It was their prediction of the world ending...its written in stone somewhere

In the end time will only tell...If it does...You have to give the props to the Mayans

William Miller said that it will end in 1842. The writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls said in their time, around the time of Christ. I think Jack Impi said 2006.

I think the Mayan calender ends in 2012, but it doesn't predict the end of the world.

Where did you get this date?

Remember it was supposed to end with the Y2K thing and also on June 6 last year (6-6-06).

It will only end by the demise of the humans that live on the earth. If we dont shape up and take care of it, it wont be around to take care of us.
