There is a HUGE shocker, Mike thinks Yzerman and Lidstrom are rated too high. lol

But when you look at Bourques numbers next to Lidstroms, I can't complain about them putting Nick right behind him, that may be a little high for Nick- lol. Ray all but doubles him in career points.
I would think they are judging on more than just pure statistics though, remember, Dionne never won a cup.

Yea, you are right, there are definitely some contestable positions on this top 50 for sure. I guess we would have to know exactly what dictated their criteria.

When did that come out? I haven't seen this list yet. I don't understand why Lidstrom is in the top 10. He's a great player, but top 10? I'm also amazed at how Mark Messier is #4. I'm stumped as to why Marcel Dionne, the man who is #5 on the all time ppg list is 23. I'm also a little surprised at Yzerman being #6. I think Esposito deserves a higher spot than Yzerman.

LOL zam, you know me all too well, but mind you, I'm not saying Bourque was better than Lidstrom at all. I'm saying that there's a couple of players that deserve to be in the top 10 ahead of Lidstrom. And no, they aren't Avs players. And I really think Esposito was, and still is, underrated, he had 76 goals in a season once! Perhaps you're right, Dionne never did win a Cup, but still, #23???? That's absurd.

Snoop makes good points. Lemieux should be ahead of Orr.

I have a couple of issues with this list, namely with number three, twenty-four, and fifty. Bobby Orr is no way better than Mario Lemieux as a player, but I can see why he is as high as he is (for his impact upon modern day defensemen). Peter Forsberg is no way better than Ron Francis (and lest it be said that Francis was MUCH better than Mark Messier...yep, I went there), and I would have put Borjle Salming (sp?) at number fifty over Rob Blake.

An addendum- Cam Neely? There's no way he's one of the Top 50 players the past 40 years, certainly not over Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton, and Jarome Iginla! Hell, I would put Doug Gilmour in Neely's spot. One simply cannot use "what might have been" as criterium in this debate for Neely.

Orr should be first on the list. He could dominate a game in ways that Lemieux or Gretzky never could.

No way Patrick Roy belongs at number five. I'm not even sure he belongs on the list.

Yeah okay, so is there a question?
Too bad they didn't include a few Canadians on that list. LOL
