It's not about cost...it's about trying to keep crap out of landfills. (you know, reduce, reuse, recycle)

They are so cheap I really don't see the point. But I had a grandma that did the same thing. She did this with foil also.:)

RE:
Is it bad to wash Ziploc bags and reuse them? Should we worry about bacteria growth or anything like that?

Yes, bacteria growth is a major concern. Don't risk it. The doctor bills would be way more expensive than buying new ziploc bags. The other thing about plastic is it breaks down over time. I stopped reusing plastic drinking water bottles due to the potential bacteria growth and the fact that the plastic eventually breaks down. That's why there is an expire date on the bottles (water, of course, doesn't expire!)

The short answer is yes you should worry about bacteria when washing and reusing plastic Zip lock bags. However, I have reused mine by keeping the food in its original wrapper and then putting it into a Zip lock bag. This is useful for items you are freezing because the original packaging is usually not enough protection for the freezer. It is also useful in the refrigerator because the opened package is no longer air tight nor able to keep food fresh.

I do, all the time. I just don't put any protein in an old bag, nor reuse bags that have held proteins.
