My mom has an A8, the big sedan, just above the A6, its an amazing car, great interior, great size and very sporty dispite its very long length. But one issue is that with Audi's, the maintainance can be very expensive. But they are great.

Audi's are great cars but they are expensive to maintain you have to fallow the recommended maintenance schedule these are not Toyota's you cant buy them and forget about maintenance if you do things will build up and you will have a huge bill for repairs all at once. They are very reliable in comparison to other high end German sedans. i would recommend a non turbo model as you don't have to worry about replacing the turbo every 75K miles or so. you will find they need repairs around 65-75K mile when the timing belt and water pump need to be replaced (if a turbo that usually will need to be replace about this mileage too) over all they are great cars they are a solid build and have great interiors. they very rarely rust anywhere and interior feel new for 10 years +. Just remember these are high end cars and they are designed for people who have money so they are not designed to be cheep to own they are designed to be high quality high performance cars and in order to maintain those attributes you must spend the money that they were designed to require. a hundred dollar oil change is nothing to someone who bought a new $55K A6, but the person who bought a 10 year old A6 for $10K and is expecting to take it to jiffy lube for 19.99 is in for a surprise just because its older doesn't mean the maintenance price goes down.
Audi's maintenance is still slightly less than BMW or Mercedes Benz but don't expect it to be cheep to own. I have an A6 and i love it especially if you live in the snow the Quattro system is so predictable in ice/snowy weather it still amazes me every year when the first snow comes. they are very save very well handling reliable cars that should go 200K+ miles (non turbo) with proper maintenance. I have owned 3 Audi's and not one has ever left me stranded (i cant say that about my camry). The majority of the parts that people complain about reliability for are wear parts from the drive train and oil leaks. if you are buying new you will not see many repairs until about 65-80K miles and thats when most of the maintenance is needed then again around 150K which should take you through 200K or so.
I keep my Audis till around 180K miles usually then sell them while they still have some value (resale value drops allot after 200K) i would definitly recommend Audi's to those able to afford them. i personally would buy a 2 year old certified used Audi as you end up with a better warrenty (there certified warrenty is one of the best in the business) and you don't pay for the initial depreciation hit.
for the most reliability go with a A4 with a V6 non turbo the A6 is alos reliable but more gadgets mean more to go wrong. the A8 takes a dive in reliability although it is still more reliable than the BMW7 series and S-class unless you really want the size i would stick to A4 or A6 or S4. The New A5/S5 coups should also be very reliable (basicaly an A4 2 door coupe).

I (well, my parents) owned an Audi for almost 7 years, and only one thing ever went on it...the left headlight bulb. We had no mechanical problems, no electrical problems, no problems full stop. They are the best handling cars out there, one of the safest manufacturers out there (beware of the year of the car) and have the nicest and most luxurious interiors of any other make. Obviously the price is a limiting factor, but if you have enough money to comfortably buy an Audi, there should be absolutely no reason why you shouldn't.

From my experience, Audi's are a great car, but can be expensive to fix. Their interiors are industry-leading, and they drive on snow like a RWD would drive on dry pavement. The only thing is that as Audi's get older, they develop a lot of problems. I bought mine with 57,000 miles, and I only put a lil more than 10k miles, and I had issues with the exhaust valves, wheel bearings, transmission oil seal, and the right CV boot. However, my interior still looks new and it drives very smoothly. Regardless, I would HIGHLY recommend buying an Audi new, but if you get one used, beware

I've never owned one, but my husband's boss has one. He loves it (and so does my husband). The only problem I have heard about it though is that one of the sensor lights (forgot which one) comes on. He's taken it to the dealership for work several times, and they keep returning it to him "fixed". He'll have no problems for a day or two, but then all of a sudden, the light comes on again. I don't know what type of Audi he has.
