If you read a pregnancy test past the required time frame then it can be a false positive. After a few minutes lines can show up, light or dark - which are called evaporation lines. So if the test required to read the results withing 10 minutes then 10 minutes is all you can rely on, after that the test is not valid anymore. They need to take another one to find out for sure.

Well normally it can take like 3-5 mins. for a positive to show. But since she took it in the afternoon, there may not have been enough hormones in her urine to give an accurate result. She should take it with first morning urine because the hormone levels will be higher. I'm inclined to positive, because I have never had that happen and false positives are rare.

Normally it gives you a time limit in which the tests are good for. I would say go ahead and take another test in the morning, like you told him. Sounds like it didn't work correctly.

Pregnancy tests are expensive. I would definetly have him get another one. He should also bring the box of the defective one back to the store and request a refund or a replacement one.

first of all after 10 min they tell you not to look at it because it's invalid after that amount of time. She probaby took it wrong and needs to read the directions carefully and take it again in the morning.

He should get her to do another pregnancy test because that dont sound right. She should get her doctor to test her urine with a pregnancy test.
