When working in a shop, what are some signs to watch for to help determine if someone is underage? It's hard to tell between a 16 year old and an 18 year old most of the time.

well i work in a supermarket and have to sell ciggies , best piece of advice is to look at the customer if they look under 21 ID them. It is best way really. Also dont hand over item until ID is shown and if no ID is shown refuse there is nothing thay can do about it, otherwise if you caught selling to underage people you may be fined or possibly lose job.
Also if the customer is over 21 and you ID they should just take it as a compliment.
End of day your in charge its your say and dont let them walk all over you and if you think its wrong to sell tehm well dont sell them.
Also it is illegalto sell them to anyone that may be purchasing them for a minor (anyone under age of 18).
Its now 18 years of age to sell ciggies and alcohol.

Always ask 4 an ID, now days kids underage look like grownups. So, I suggest that even if that person looks older enought ask 4 an ID, 4 the safety of job. Good luck!

Considering you are supposed to card anyone that looks under 30 this shouldnt be a huge issue but some signs are that they cant look you in the eye or play with things on the counter during the transaction or they have the money out like they are in a hurry or are paying in change they may have scraped up from under the sofa cushions...

If in doubt, check their ID. Actually, just check everyone's ID. It's easier, and some adults (mostly women) are flattered to be told that they look young enough to be under 18, even if they know it is a lie.

yeah some does have fake id, but u can tell by wrinkle beside their mouth and beneath their eyes. but it is hard to tell between 16 and 18 or 17 and 18, but if u luk careful u can tell

you are supposed to check anyone that looks under 25?27? i dont remember which it is but when I worked at a grocery store we had to check anyone that even was questionable or we wouldnt sell to them. most adults started smoking when they were in thier teens, so if you are just guessing who looks old enough there are a lot of them that are getting through your system.

Card everyone. In my state (South Carolina) it is legal to buy at any age, but illegal to sell to minors. This means the kid walks, but the cashier gets punished. Protect yourself and card anyone you don't know.

ask for ID if he looks younger than 23 and if he's 18 he's gonna want tot show you his ID

ask for there ID if they dont have one kick them out of your shop.
