it still depends on a lot of factors
chest cavity size, lung capacity which grows for athletes, shrinks for couch potatoes and genetics
you can estimate the diameter by measuring from the spinal column out to the outer edge under armpit taking measurement as a flat surface. maybe easiest to do when standing with your side against the wall and measuring the distance from your spine to the wall at 90 degree angle.
then you would have to subtract from that maybe 4 inches to allow for bones and other tissue.

This is not a flat answer. Dimensions of the lungs depend on sex, health, age, height, etc.
