Winston Churchill. He was not well loved by the people and had been drummed out of politics. All through the 1930s, he wrote political commentaries for the news paper, warning of the evils of Adolf Hitler. People laughed. Then Prime Minister Chamberlain, along with France and a few others agreed to give Hitler the Sudatenland in return for a promise of peace. As France was falling, the King of England essentially fired Chamberlain. He also asked Chamberlain for his recommendation for his replacement. His, was a one word response: "Churchill."
With over 250,000 British troops "trapped" in France and being over run by the Nazis, and with the threat of England being next to fall, who else but Winston had guts enough to accept the position? In his first four days in office, he had to not only form his war cabinet, but had to rescue the troops, prepare for all out war, sooth a nation that suddenly found itself on the brink of destruction AND make peace with those of Chamberlain's cabinet who still hated him. Churchill was not new to politics, nor was he new to the military (he served disasterously in WW I), but he had been out of the loop for over a decade. He knew that if he did not win this one, not only would his country fall, but as their leader, he would be shot or hung by the conquering Germans.
Churchill pulled it all together. He managed to save the troops -- Dunkirk being a major military retreat/defeat, was a great and historic victory, and saw his Britain (he was the last of the 'Great Empire' types) through its darkest days and ultimately victory, ushering in a new era.

Check out Representative Tim Ryan from Ohio.
I don't agree with every position he takes, but he's very passionate when speaking about issues and holds to his convictions. Plus, he's a young guy and I feel he represents the younger generations like us.

You may have to research a little, I don't remember his name, but he ran for president of Columbia on an anti-drug/ anti-corruption platform during the hayday of Pablo Escobar (the cocaine drug lord), who was murdering and/or bribing every politician/judge or law enforcement type he could get his hands on.

Sen. Joe Lieberman - he speaks the truth as he sees it and he doesn't deviate because of political interests or the current, conventional "wisdom" of his party.
