When a piece of rabbit fur is stroked with a rubber rod the rod becomes negatively charged whereas a piece of silk stroked with a glass rod becomes positively charged. Why?
And what is a charged atom called?

Silk easily absorbs electrons from the glass rod, which is opposite for the rubber rod and rabbit fur. A charged atom is called an ion.

A charged atom is called an ion. A cation is positively charged and a anion is negatively charged.
