They have computers to calculate and predict outcomes, such as when to pit your cars so they won't come out behind another slower cars, and to some extend, they may even predict the outcome of the race, roughly..

So they probably knew Lewis couldn't climb back up to P5 if things remains the same. Mind you that at that time, drivers like Webber are still running, so making it all the harder for Lewis to get into the points position

I guess they decided to try something else, a 3 stop which means he has lighter fuel load and better tires to try and make as many overtaking as he could

Obviously that didn't work out. His 3rd stint was too slow...

You might have observed that Lewis is a bit wanting when it comes to tyre preservation. Interlagos is a track that is merciless on tyres and maybe thats why they didn't feel confident of running him for 25 odd lap stints in a 2 pit stop strategy. And running light is the only way McLaren could match the Ferrari's pace in Brazil. Remember, Lewis needed only 5th to win the championship.

It relies upon on each thing. Ayrton Senna made a 7 cease technique artwork at Donnington interior the heavy rain 1993. Micheal Schumacer have been given via Alonso at France 2004 via using a 4 stopper. france's pit lane, like monaco is extremely short, reducing 5 seconds off a widely used pit time. A 2 stopper is the norm, if a protection vehicle comes out, its person-friendly to alter to a three or evn a million.

To spend as little time as possible on those super soft tires. If he could get the "golden laps" pit of them and then quickly change back over to the harder compound, then McLaren was thinking that he could gain some ground. It almost worked too since he hoisted himself up into 7th place from 18th.

Well he was trying to do a Michael Schumacher special. The tactic you can see draws itself out from Michael's Interlagos race last year but the thing is, three pit stops and Hamilton that behind just compromises his situation even more. Not only that, Ron was afraid of rain since Lewis had only one set of wets. I do agree, it was a stupid thing to do.

i think at one point they changed to soft tyres to get more grip on overtaking..they used 3 stop strategy so that they will not worn their tyres....as you what u saw..hamilton needs to run faster, thus, damage to the tyre is more probable.

But what Mclaren did yesterday was kinda risky..the result was not the one they wanted..they could have sticked to intermediate tyres and the two stop strategy..

Good question and a lot of people are wondering why. Ron Dennis said it gave Hamilton a ten second advantage in middle stint, but considering he lost 20 secs coming in again, I cant see the logic in that tactic

This startegy was designed to pull back an additional 12.5 seconds if all stints ran well. Unfortunately two of the stints where at not quite as good as was hoped, which is unlikely to have been due to Hamiltons driving. Such tactics have occasionally worked for Barichello and Schuey, but not for todays attempt.

Light loads equal faster times.....problem is you've got to get to the front and he made a rookie mistake

The way he was driving, his tyres would not have made it to the end of the race.
