The first episode starts in Egypt where a family of five ( if i am not mistaken) - the mother, the father, the older brother, the sister and the younger brother ( or sister)- had an arguement with the tour guide who later brought them into a pyramid and left them there. The family finds a door but not a regular one. The family starts to travel in time and to different worlds where through this door where they help the people -in need- until they find the next door hoping to go back to their time and world.

It was the 1985 series "Otherworld". Only eight episodes were produced. The Sci-Fi Channel reran this fairly regularly until 2002 (in mini-marathons and in a regular weeknight slot it dedicated to short-lived series).

The IMDB and Wikipedia have details on the show.

well to my opinion there is no such thing as a reading level for books... what i am trying to say is, just because on the back of the book or the website it might say "recommended for age 12 and up" does not mean that my 10 year old brother cannot read it and also, just because a book might be sold as a book for younger people does not have to mean that older people wont/cant like it^^ i have been working at a book store, and i always tell customers not to look at the age recommendation too much. a good example is my mother: she is 50 years old and she just read the book written by the german mtv- moderator sarah kuttner which usually is for ppl in the age of 20, maybe 30. after all, only people who are boring and total grinchs will say "omg why are you reading that, its not for your age!!!" best example is harry potter which soooo many adults read even though its a kids book! or twilight: i have so many customers over the age of 40 which love that book! i read kids and teen books very often and i think everyone should read whatever they can get they're hands on! no matter what others say... you dont really need permission from your friends on what to read, if theyre good friends, they wont care! especially any girl that REALLY cares about you... when it comes to that sentence: "That Sci-Fic is for people who live in an Iimaginary world" thats bullshit. any book you read brings you to an imaginery world, if you have a lot of fantasy it might let you forget everything else! but is that not the reason why ppl LOVE to read? maybe she just doesnt like to read??idk, i dont get it^^

This was a show called "Otherworld". Didn't last very long, unfortunately.
