I am 13, and for some reason when I get an erection, my penis doesn't just straighten, it actually gets longer. Is this normal or what?

It's normal. Erection means that you penis gets longer and thicker.

A penis erection occurs when two tubular structures that run the length of the penis, the corpora cavernosa, become engorged with venous blood. This may result from any of various physiological stimuli. The corpus spongiosum is a single tubular structure located just below the corpora cavernosa, which contains the urethra, through which urine and semen pass during urination and ejaculation, respectively.

Think of it this way. Your penis is a muscle and when you get a hard-on it flexes. The only difference between your regular muscles and your penis, is your penis is involuntary. You have no control over it.

The blood flows to your penis which causes it to expand, since there is spongy material in your penis.

Yes, when you are aroused blood is sent to your penis which is an organ that will expand when it fills up. Totally norm.
