202952 would be your dads Service Number- all servicemen recieve one on enlistment. The abbreviation 'Pte' stands for 'Private' which would have been his rank and 'Lan Fus' I believe stands for Lancashire Fusiliers.

A medal is often engraved with the recipients name on the side though I am unsure why your dads name would be on something with the dates 1914 - 1918 considering you are looking at this with your Grandma, if this is indeed a medal (as it indeed sounds like) this would make you in your 80's or 90's (which is at least possible I suppose), your dad at least 105 and your grandma in her 120's????

Sounds like you've found a British War Medal. These were awarded to anyone who served for the British between
Aug. 5, 1914 and Nov. 11,1918. The information inscribed around the rim is the serviceman's name, regiment, and service number.

FYI, the naked guy on the horse is St. George, and the medal is based on George V's gold Soverign coin.
