The Big City Police Dept. feels that it needs to improve its responsiveness to emergency calls. Over a 100- day period, they recorded the number of callers each day that hung up before a dispatcher could answer the call. At present, an average of 65 callers a day hang up before dispatchers answer the line, with a standard deviation of 20.

Assume that the number of abandoned calls per day is normally distributed.

On any given day what is the percentage of calls that:
- 25 to 85 callers abandon
- Less than 25 callers abandon

It is considered a "bad" day if more than 105 callers hang up before the dispatcher answers the line. What is the chance of haveing a "bad" day?

What is the approximate range of callers that hang up before dispatchers can answer the call?

Hello whatever, i have some answers and page links to the page of explanations , also a link to a nifty calculator for your problem.
My calculator is not working so i used this link
http://www.psychstat.missouristate.edu/introbook/SBK11.htm
the next link explains the math:
http://www.psychstat.missouristate.edu/introbook/SBK11.htm

the answers are as follows:

On any given day what is the percentage of calls that:
- 25 to 85 callers abandon 0.819 = 81.9 % or 81.9 %
- Less than 25 callers abandon 0.023 = 23%

It is considered a "bad" day if more than 105 callers hang up before the dispatcher answers the line. What is the chance of haveing a "bad" day? 1-.997 = .003 or 3 %
Its like a plug and play or in this case calculate.

Word up, 65+- 20, With this one you need to know what a standard bell curve is and the distribution within that bell curve. I don't have access to that. First one is up to the deviation from norm. Second is 2 deviations below. Third is 2 deviations above norm.
