Me and my friends really want to produce a broadway musical in our school's theater. We have the vocal/chord book and script. We know the blocking/etc. Would we still get in trouble if we produced it without paying and not charge people to come watch us?

The musical is currently on broadway and touring.

How big of a lawsuit?

Big time lawsuit if you try and do that. Seriously. It's ILLEGAL. You would be facing some serious fines. Your school would never be allowed to do a show ever again. You are too young to serve jail time for it, but your teacher might have to.

Producing a show without paying the royalties is STEALING. Don't do it.

For school plays there is a low fee through the French Company, usually $50 or $200

No Edit: i've got performed distinctive community theatre, and you'd be able to desire to pay for copies of that into to offer it to whom ever holds the copyright on it. you are able to't produce any production even for a school without permission or paying.

I would say a lawsuit would be on your way if anyone from the publishing company found out! Pay the royalties.
