What difference does it make whether it's called a massacre, a slauther, systematic killings, holocaust, or genocide? Why is the US congress concerned with passing resolutions on historical events? Who benefits? Why?

It makes a BIG difference. Genocide and massacre are two different things. Genocide is considered a crime against humanity. It is the "massacre" of an entire race. Genocide is a powerful word..it means that there was an intent of extermination. And its currently happening in Darfur.

One can make the same argument about the Holocaust. Why call it the Holocaust? Why not call it "the murders" or "killings" of Jews... Because there is power, in the word Holocaust...and in the same way, there is power in the word "genocide".

Please see this video, its Congressman Schiff arguing with Condeleeza Rice (about exactly what you are asking)!

No one benefits but this Democrat congress could find something else to blame on our President when Turkey invades northern Iraq and is no longer an ally. It's a total waste of time and money and Pelosi is already backing down.

I see no need for our government to pursue this any further! This happened a long time ago & the Ottoman Empire, no longer exists, ruled Turkey at that time. The people in power today nor the people now living in Turkey had anything to do with it! It is already recorded in history; our government had nothing to do with it at the time it happened so why should we try to embarrass Turkey today with this issue? Besides they are our friends, they are helping us in Iraq & have since the beginning.

The importance isn't the resolution, but the effect its having. Turkey is threatening to invade northern Iraq. They didn't do that until Democrats introduced this sparkling resolution. Now, if you look, you will see the democrats are running away from this mistake like rats fleeing a sinking ship.

The left wing liberal loonies have been trying to lose the war in Iraq, for their own political gain. The liberals brought this issue up now, because nothing else has worked. The liberals are trying to drive a wedge between the US and Turkey. Turkey has been allowing the US to resupply the military from Turkey.
It is a lowdown, dirty and cowardly thing the liberals have tried, just to gain political power.

Right now the only people that benefit from that would be the terrorists and their number one supporters, the democrats. If we make Turkey mad enough at us, the people of Turkey will demand we not use their space for war purposes. They can do that! This is an issue that is been addressed before by congress and at this time, it can wait until the war is over or the US is not present anymore in Iraq. This is just hurting us in the international community right now and hurting our soldiers in Iraq.

the freeworld...history has a tendancy to repeat itself...and the only way to end the cycle is to reflect and analyze...as to not make the same mistake again...100 years really isn't that long ago...and one would be naive to think it couldn't happen again...we have better technology and the internet and all that but people are still the same homosapiens today that they were 100 years ago...and are still capable of genocide...and it's my opinion that there's plenty more genocides to come...maybe next time we'll do something about it instead of sit passively on the sidelines. Sorry Sudanian Muslims...maybe next time.

Hey you answered for me so now my turn. History is one of the most important things people have. By looking into the past one can build a better future. If America claims to fight for freedom an rights of people then it should recognize what has occur ed. It should not be about who is America's ally but who has it right. Armenian genocide was the first of 20th century and it should be recognised worldwide.
