Not for a long while.
- There is no money in it for the league aside from the expansion fee.
- The local TV contracts in Vegas and KC are much bigger than anything a Canadian team could get (outside Torotno and Montreal)
- The locals already buy tons of NHL merchandise so there wouldn't be a huge upseide there
- There really isn't anybody there who can afford the expansion fee. Balsillie wants his team in Southern Ontario, and Katz wants his team in Edmonton
- The arena isn't big enough (the link below lists attendance for hockey/curling at 15,015). The Jets filled a larger stadium so fan support isn't an issue..........but ticket sales are a small part of a team's revenues
EMiller
It stymies me as to why a city that loses an NHL team (and Shenkarow made the arena issue top priority) would build a new arena that is SMALLER (by about 500 seats) than the old arena AND believe that the NHL would come back.
Of course, the real sad thing is that if fans in Toronto don't smarten up, the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan can move the team to Winnipeg, they own the land that held the old Winnipeg Arena.......and the land is the rioght size for an NHL arena...........Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

If you that think the Jets left Winnipeg because of lack of paying fans, you are seriously misled or mistaken. The truth is, it doesn't matter about the regular Joe willing to pay $50 or $200. The Jets fans will pay it. But you are correct that it's about corporate sponsorship, boxes, etc. However Calgary and Edmonton aren't all that much bigger than Winnipeg (I believe Winnipeg is about 700,000, Edmonton about 800,000 and Calgary about 900,000). There are some major finance corporations in Winnipeg, but finance isn't exactly the best industry these days. Back in the day when the Jets left, that old arena didn't have corporate boxes. The new one does, but the regular seating capacity isn't enough for an NHL team. I do think the Jets should have a team if there's enough corporate sponsorship, but it won't happen anytime soon simply because of the arena.

its unlikely. big cities can get new teams because they have more money and support. thats why winnipeg isnt a top priority for a team yet.
oh and i just wanted to add something because lowblaw guy said that maybe in vegas, but not really actually because they don't put sports teams there because people would gamble too much and like pay off the refs so it would mess up the games... i just heard that somwhere, anyways i thought I'd include it cuz many ppl wonder why vegas doesnt have a lot of professional sports teams.

Well they have an arena now which was a huge problem with the last team. The population is still pretty small. They are a better choice than Vegas and KC any day.
I didn't know that. I knew the old one was on the small side. I figured the new one would be bigger. Its a shame thats a very nice looking arena too.

Maybe someday but probably never. I've heard more about Vegas, Seattle, KC, Hamilton than I have about Winnipeg lately. Winnipeg Sabres in a couple of years maybe? Just kidding.
