80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

There is no accepted universal consensus that would encompass all cultures, ethnicities, circumstances or time periods, in giving meaningful insights as to "the meaning of life". Having implied that it is a very uniquely individualistic conclusion, I can say that for me life is a journey to identify and realize my potential (physical and intellectual) and identify true happiness and fulfillment as well as to assist others in accomplishing the same. The journey has a destination, which is somewhat obscure to most of us but is generally thought to involve becoming more human in the sense of having reverence for life, doing good rather than evil and sharing our good fortunes with those less privileged. Reaching our goal involving eternal rewards and communion with a Supreme Being is somehow ingrained in our humanity.
Or again, it may be just that.....the meaning of life is to ponder over and to search for the meaning of life!

The meaning of life is to fulfill our full potential for developing, experiencing and providing love, joy, peace, kindness and wisdom as our contribution to the human experience. We do this in imitation of those same gifts freely given to us by God. Through the practice of these virtues we expand our knowledge of our shared consciousness with God. This shared consciousness survives and forms the basis of our life after this life.

To "Love God completely, love colleague as Self, love as Christ Jesus, Truth, loves, and to ascend in the Light of God as Enoch, Elijah, Jesus, and other Saints robed in white."
"Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, "The Path of Virtue," Jonathan Murro, and "A Philosophy of Universality," Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov, are examples of modern interpretations of the quote given above.
Also, http://www.divinecosmos.com and http://www.coasttocoastam.com radio address this general question, as does Martha Beck's "Expecting Adam" and C. S. Lewis' "The Great Divorce."
Http://www.family.org sponsors a daily interview which is also to this question.

p.s. In the meantime, learning to earn ("be fruitful") is very helpful ;)

The meaning of life is 'Love GOD, = worship GOD'. Giving attention unselfishly = not own interest at heart. If everybody did, = no war , = complete PEACE, harmony .
GOD doesn't 'want' the attention, Giving GOD the glory is saying 'GOD i'm not thinking of me, YOUR needs i put first'. With those actions GOD enables your giving . Your receiving from others whom GOD enabled giving , Everybody receives. = LORD'S prayer '...Thine wills done on earth like in Heaven. Amen'
Obviously Not happening on earth Yet. JESUS returns putting all HIS enemies beneath HIS feet. Change , become the waiting careing giveing servant or !
