I am starting to think about having a baby. How long before you want to get pregnant should you stop taking birth control? I would guess that is takes a while to get back on a natural cycle. I have been on the pill for about 10 years.

Actually, new studies say that for women with infertility problems should actually try the very first month they stop the pill. I tried that when I wanted to get pregnant without the use of clomid and IT WORKED! I got pregnant the first month off the pill AND without clomid. The newer types of birth control pills have much less hormones than in the past and don't take as long to get out of your system.

If you want to have a baby soon i would stop now. They say it takes like 6 months to a year to get pregnant when you come off of birth control but it only took my a few days. Everyone is different and it could also depend on the pill your taking. maybe ask your ob tell him your ready and find out how long he says it will take. It doesnt mean he will be right but he probably has a pretty good educated guess. Good luck to you!

I have been told by someone (not a doctor) that you should wait a year. I waited 2 months and am pregnant with my first child. I personally don't think it takes that long to get out of your system, because when you stop taking the pill, your period starts (say you just stopped taking them in the middle of the week). I would talk to your doctor before if you want that peace of mind. I was on the pill for... 6 years.

It all depends on the woman. usually they say it could take up to a year for your body to get used to not being on the pill anymore. But in some cases it could only take a couple months. Also if it does take more than a year thats when you should see a doctor to make sure there isnt anything else going on. I was off of the pill for 2 months before my son was conceived. But my friend was off for almost a year before her baby was conceived. Good Luck!
