I lived in Buffalo for 22 years and live in Vegas right now. My fiancee are hoping to move back soon. We are even having our wedding in Buffalo (in December) rather than having it in Vegas! People only hear about the negatives of Buffalo and Western New York, whether it be in regards to the sports, weather and economy. I personally think it is a great part of the country. You can't beat the mild summers, gorgeous falls and (yes I may sound crazy) the snow at winter time. Niagara Falls is only minutes away. Some historic buildings are landmarks in the city. Many people who leave Western New York wish they could get back to the area. People miss things like Tim Horton's, Anchor Bar, Duffs or Mighty Taco. Yes the actual city isn't in the best condition, but there is a whole lot more to the region.
As for sports...we may not have the winningest teams but the area sure does have heart. I race home after teaching any night that their is a Sabres game on (we have the Center Ice package). I've been going to games since the Aud when my feet couldn't even touch the ground in the stands and we have tickets to go to the 12/26 game vs Ottawa 3 days before our wedding. Every city has bandwagon fans and its hypocritical for people to say their team does not have any. The Sabres have only played 7 games this season...its way to early to make any judgements about the playoffs (same for any other team and their fans to make proclamations as well).
So yes, I love Buffalo and I love the Sabres, Bills and even the Bisons!!
Favorite Sabre- Timmy Connolly (glad he is healthy this year)

Well i love my sports teams especially the Sabres My favorite player is Max as well although i like them all very much i will always be a sabres fan no matter what even if the never win a championship as for the Bills i am not a huge fan of them but i do like Lynch other than him i am not crazy about them My favorite football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers
Buffalo is not as bad of a place as alot of people make it out to be granted for us people who live here there isnt that much to do but we are close to so many things such as Niagara Falls, Canada, Lake Erie and great Beach Clubs, ski resorts
also if you knew the history of some of the places you would really appreciate them more and there is the Buffalo Zoo as well as for McGhee he can just stay gone for all i care

Could have tried Travel-->US-->Other. Anyway, I've lived my entire life in Western New York. I'm in the Syracuse area now going to college, and there are a lot of things I miss about the place! I love being so close to Canada, having our professional sports teams (take that, Rochester!,) and lakes Erie and Ontario keeping our summers cool and breezy. I love snow; couldn't imagine a winter without it (although the 7+ feet we got up where I go to school last winter was a bit of overkill, even for me) and I love the fact that Western New York uses its weather, population makeup, and geography to its own advantages to make a multicultural community. As for the sports teams, bah to football; don't watch it, never have, but I do remember having Super Bowl pep rallies when I was in elementary school, and the Sabres, well, anyone around this part of Y!A can tell you what I think about them. "I bleed blue and gold" is an understatement.

P.S. My favorite Sabre is Paul Gaustad. Great combination of skill, toughness, and leadership ability.

I'm a stones throw away from Buffalo here in Hamilton. I've been to just about every major city in Canada, US, and many cities overseas. And as far as crapholes, Buffalo is no worse than many east coast cities in the US. I would rate Jersey City one of the worst -- just above Philadelphia. People like to pile-on Buffalo just because of the squandered SuperBowl losses, Cup losses, and bad weather. Since moving back to Hamilton (thank you, GWB and dual-citizenship) 7 years ago, I'd say Buffalo has made strides in cleaning itself up.

Credit given where it is due, however it will be a long time before she shakes her reputation as a blue-collar-steel-town.

I've only been there a couple of times, but I can't say I was blown away by the scenery. I'll be in town for the Panther game, so I'm hoping my first tilt at the new arena will be a good one.

As for a native's perspective, one of my closest friends hails from Buffalo. He always says that it's "a great place to be from". Ouch, yes, but whether he'd say that in front of a Buffalonian is likely a different matter.

i live close to buffalo, its an alright city except the fact that nothing is there, and i don't like their sports teams because i want my teams to win so i obviously cant pull for a buffalo team because i would end up disappointed at the end of the season

I've been to Buffalo hundreds of times.

Buffalo has cheap real estate......................that is the only positive comment I can think of now.

Buffalo is a rinky-dink little town that will really fall on hard times when Ralph Wilson dies and the football team heads to Los Angeles, Portland, or Toronto. Even the Walden Galleria bores me.

I admit it................I like Mighty Taco too! We have Duffs in Toronto too

I am guessing that you haven't done much travelling or are just young. I have been to Buffalo and rate it as one of the worst cities I have ever been to. Hell, there was more to do in Havana, Cuba. It really is a lifeless city compared to others. Obviously, sports players and their wives would agree. Less opportunity and less to do with their boatloads of cash.

What's the best thing about Buffalo? The Canadian border is just 15 minutes away.
