No, we'd have no reason to be there unless it were for a completely humanitarian mission. Remember, the U.S. does those too.
Now, I wouldn't consider myself a Bushite, neo, or whatever warmongering lable some denizens here like to use. I'm not a big fan of conquest, war, and killing in general. I do study history however and there may be something brutally practical going on here so...
Oil is a highly valid reason for being there today. Without oil our cushy U.S. lifestyles, Europe's, Asia's, and industrialized African, South, and developed Central American regions would all crumble. Period.
Anyone who can enjoy the luxury of playing around in Yahoo Answers simply wouldn't be able to.
Also, from what I've read from multiple sources, there isn't 100 years of recoverable oil left. None of the emerging technologies (even most of them combined) can possibly replace oil for the forseeable future. Especially at a price you, I, and we can afford.
So consider if you would this possibility: It may be cheaper (financially and in lives) to take these countries today than it will be 20 years from now when everybody gets despirate for whatever's left of easily recoverable oil (in dollars and available technology). By that I mean we won't be at all out war with China, Europe, the Russian States, and everbody else at the same time.

The confirmation of the big oil grab is the inaction in Rwanda. Did the Americans do anything before during or even after the mass genercide.? NO. and why not? because they haven`t got any oil to steal.
If they discovered that Iraq has no oil in the morning, they would all be back home by sunset.
As to the death and distruction they cause, do you really think they care?
As to the cost of putting it right. Someone else can pay!!!

Early Islam as with early Christianity have been the two militant. The Caliphate of Baghdad had the main important military interior the prevalent international until it become destroyed via the golden horde of Chengis Khan. Saladin and the crusaders had a honest tussle. The Ottoman Empire had a chilled effect on the midsection east until the terrorist Lawrence of Arabia, enabled Britain, France and Russia to carve up the midsection east into spheres of activity. then we extra into the brouhaha The Balfour contract. we've meddled interior the midsection east by way of fact the Byzantine era. the midsection East is incidental merely interior the East for people who stay interior the Europe Africa or the Americas from something of the international its West which take place to be the greater beneficial land mass. i think of i'd be Militant if somebody got here by my front door waving a gun or arming feudal warlords and taking my rights.

no - they wont be interested in the region - only reason they are interested is cos the economies are built around oil - if the price goes up, people will have to pay EVEN more thus resulting in less cars on the road - no one can get to work - or do shopping, or hell even go out. So the economy will come to a stand still, more unemployment will then pursue which means the govt will have to pay out more

America already defeated iraq during desert storm when iraq invaded kuwait. America didnt take any oil or anything from either of those 2 countries even though they easily could have and who knows how many millions of dollars they spent on that war. Why do people always forget this event when mentioning oil, usa and iraq???
