It is illegal to touch, let alone exterminate bats. Get in touch with your Council immediately (I suggest the Planning Dept is a good place to start). They will advise. They are harmless so no need to worry but beware - the penalties for interfering with the wee beasties are severe.

You can't use pesticide or any other form of termination! I doubt very much there are bats in the loft but bats are a protected species now.

If your friend has bat's in the loft she should ask for specialist help. Bat's are protected and she could be in alot of trouble for putting pesticides down. Speak to Bat's Protection or R.S.P.C.A for contact's in the matter.

to rid the loft of bats, make sure they are there first. go outside at sundown or shorlty before and see if there are bats leaving. then close up the hole they use to get in. do this for a couple of weeks to make sure the problem has resolved itself. the bats will relocate, the enviromentalists are happy you did not kill them and you are happy they are gone.
