not looking for the awnser i just really need the equations plz!!

Renting a moped from jack's adventure shack costs $42.50 a day plus 16 cents per km. The same moped rented from patrick's paridise tours costs $24.25 a day plus 25 cents pr km. Shara wants to rent a moped for three days. for witchc driving distance is jacks price cheaper? For witch driving dictances is particks price chaeaper?

Since you're asking about the driving distance only, its obvious - is 25 cents/km more or less than 16 cents/km?

But if you mean TOTAL cost, that's not what you're asking.
For that you'd need to know the total distance to be driven.
Jack's: (16 cents/km X distance to be driven) + (3 X 42.50)
Patricks: (25 cents/km X distance to be driven) + 3 x 4.25)

Determine which value is less.

this is an inequality equation, meaning that it will be that one is cheaper up to a certian amount of kilometres and one will be cheaper after that.
let x=number of km and J=total cost of Jack's and P= total cost of Patrick's.
since the number of days is the same, you can add that as a constant times the given cost per day.
J=($42.50*3)+(x*$0.16)
meaning J=127.5+(x*$0.16)
P=($24.25*3)+(x*$0.25)
meaning P=$72.75+(x*$0.25)
then you put the constants all on one side and the variables on the other.
so
54.75=0.09x
and then simplify for 1 by dividing each side by 0.09.
x=608.333...
so Patrick's would be cheaper up to 608.333... (or just 608 if you round)km and then Jack's would be cheaper from then on.

for which x is y the same for both functions

<=> 0.16x + 42.50 = 0.25x + 24.25
