my friend the world is the twisted and convoluted result of incomplete human knowledge and cruel human psychology. justice and freedom and desire are distorted manifestations of human spirit and no one knows what we are looking for. no human is qualified to answer your question because we ourselves are victims to the traps of our own mind. the world is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors without the certainty behind it.

On the surface it is a logical question but the war is considered necesssary for survival and feeding hungry nations, which we do by the way, is secondary.
The question is often asked in the States " Why do we send so much money overseas when we have needs at home that are not met" so it is a problem even here in the U.S. without a war.

Easy. Feeding starving people won't keep us safe. Fighting terrorists will. Also, the U.S. spends 3 times as much on social welfare programs (think WELFARE) than it does on the war.
Oh yeah, and I don't think Africa is our responsibility. Didn't we bring over a lot of people from there about 200 years ago?

I explain it by saying you don't know what you're talking about. The US govt gives billions of dollars in aid to Africa every year, as do most European countries. And the people of the US and Europe donate countless millions on top of that to private charities. Africa is a black hole of dysfunction, but it's not the fault of the US or Erope.

It doesn't really matter. For years and years and years money has been pumped into Africa, and there are still starving people. One of the biggest reason is they still breed like cockroaches, having baby after baby after baby even though they know they cannot feed the ones they already have.

There is no freedom without a strong military, and free markets are the best antidote to poverty and hunger. So we must strike a healthy balance among teaching men to fish, giving men fish, and protecting the right to fish.
The American defense budget is currently at 19% of GDP, which is actually lower than in years past.

Because the reason why Africans starve is usually because they have wars. Stop the wars, and you are halfway there. People will help drought-ridden, flooded countries. But corruption, greed, power hungry mad people - especially if they are voted in - that's another story.

Hunger and poverty are huge problems and require complex solutions to make permanent improvements. You only have to be able to shoot a gun to wage war. It has always been much easier to destroy than to build. It's not right, but its the way it has been for centuries.

I'm more concerned with the hungry and those who don't have the medicines they need right here in the US. But I do see your point overall. The reason that money is spent on war and not on social improvement all has to do with greed, ego, and power... has nothing to do with the will of the people.
