When religion ruled the world, they called it THE DARK AGES. It started with the fall of imperial Rome and the rise of the Holy Roman Empire. Went on though the Feudal period and the crusades. Took a step backwards with the inquisition and was killed by the BLACK PLAGUE that mostly killed off the serfs and peasants that did all the hard labor that supported the feudal lords that made the Church rich and powerful. The Merchants and guilds that supplied the Church and Lords with rare goods and ornate buildings (EG, Masons) rose to some collective power and with support of Kings that wanted new wives (TUDORS) and such brought about the Reformation and renaissance.
