It has been widely suggested that manatees could be behind the myth of the mermaid. These large aquatic mammals are notable for the way in which they carry their young, cradled in their arms much as a human would carry a baby.
It is possible that sailors seeing these unfamiliar beasts for the first time, would assume that they had in fact stumbled across some sort of humanoid species, and consequently spread their accounts of the sightings through their homelands on their return from voyages.
It has even been posited that the traditional image of a mermaid with long flowing hair could be attributed to manatees breaking the ocean surface underneath patches of seaweed, and giving the unfamiliar observer the impression of having long "hair."

It is a mystical creature, and many sightings were written documents made by seamen during previous centuries. There are no known sightings made by modern people, however, there are known cases where babies were born with "mermaid syndrome", it is a rare congenital disorder in which a child is born with his or her legs fused together and the genitalia is reduced. This condition is about as rare as conjoined twins and is usually fatal within a day or two of birth because of kidney and bladder complications. Three survivors are known to be alive today, after receiving operations to separate their legs.

I think so Im not really sure. What I think is that they live in another world. Like ghost they live inbetween the spirit world and our world. And if you see a skeliton mermaid on the internet those are actually hand carved. Also I think that they could live at the bottom of the ocean but theres only a few left thats why we never see them.

No, but people have thought to have seen mermaids in the ocean or captured them.
A long time ago men on ships believed to have seen "mermaids" but were just Manitees

Yes they do. They are evil things that attract sailors and make their ships crash.
