For me, it covers a lot of things:

1. Yelling, screaming, name-calling.
2. Slamming doors, hitting the wall, smashing objects on the floor, giving somebody the idea that "that could have been you I was hitting and you're lucky it isn't".
3. Insulting someone constantly, belittling them, even if it's in a soft-spoken, calm tone of voice. Not acknowledging their accomplishments. Shrugging when they do something good, like getting an A or getting a promotion, acting like it's nothing.
4. Giving someone the silent treatment, ignoring them.
5. Glaring at someone, giving them dirty looks.
6. Acting sad and depressed, disappointed in somebody, when there's little to be upset about. Not telling them what you're upset about, saying "you should know what you did".
7. Provoking somebody to anger and then acting hurt, shocked, etc. that they would be angry. Treating them as if they are unreasonable to react that way.
8. Preventing somebody from seeing friends, loved ones, not letting them do things they love to do. Punishing them harshly for small or imaginary offenses. Disciplining them for not being absolutely perfect.
9. Taking pleasure from somebody's suffering, laughing at them, gloating, or just even getting a small pleased look on your face when they are upset or hurting in any way.
10. Saying "I love you" right after you've said something really mean to them. Acting like you're doing them a favor by hurting them because you're just "telling the truth".

You get the idea. It's worse when it happens over and over, especially within a family situation. It doesn't matter if it's husband, wife, grandparent, uncle, aunt, child, co-worker or boss perpetrating the violence - it's still violence.

Psychological violence is any non physical act that puts fear and or intimidation into the mind of the victim.

Typically the victim will be coerced into doing something against their will simply by the threat or perceived threat of violence rather than an actual physical attack
