If you have a little country twang then you do have an accent. I'm from down south also and never really realized that I spoke differently or with some consider an accent until I went to NY. Then everyone was looking at me and saying you have such an accent. If you travel from out of your surroundings to different states then everyone will say that you have an accent.

LOL, I actually do have a very thick Southern accent, even people in the south notice it, LOL.

That is the first thing people usually notice about me when I open my mouth, they start snickerin and tell me how cute my accent is...I am not one of the lucky ones who can turn it off. It takes waay too much concentration and certain things I can't even say w/o an accent even when I try!

I was born in Mississippi,
have been all over the place,
came to end up in Texas,
Honey, I have an accent,
I don't need another one.
But if I wanted to get a new one,
all I would need to do,
is be in a room for
15 or 20 minutes with people
who speak with a different accent
and when I left that room,
I would sound like them,
but with a Texas accent.
Bon Jour, Y'all

I'm the Bunnie's Mom,
and we both have the ability
to pick up other people accents,
I learned I could do it while in grade school,
we were listening to a recording of people speaking, "broken English".
I always loved the way
Count Dracula said, "Good Evening."
It was so elegant.
I begged my Mom to let me take
voice and diction lessons,
so I wouldn't sound like
a dumb old Mississippi Hick.
It must have worked,
because people are always telling me,
"You don't sound like you're from the South.
I watched "My Fair Lady" last night
& I know I sound very cockney British today.
Plus, I love the music, I sing through all the
parts jumping back & forth between,
"Just you wait" and " I could have danced all night."
And my daughter Bunnie (Boo) has inheirted my talent.
When she & Frannie are home Boo sounds like her Hispanic friends & Frannie sounds like most of the Texans around here, with a bit of Howdy and a tad of Y'all.
I like my current accent, whatever it turns out to be that day.

Believe it or not - we Americans DO have an accent to other people around the world.

Don't be so quick to lust over other country's accents - remember that only by being yourself can you add to the world's variety.

I have a tiny bit of a Japanese accent, but it's not very noticable.
