I've heard the same thing over and over again; the chances of that are 1 in 1 million. I don't care what the chances are! I'm kind of shy around my parents about that stuff, so I can't just say,"Mom, can you find me an acting coach?" I'm not allowed to go to those talent scout things because it costs money. If there was just some way to find an audition for a movie that would be fantastic! I live in newport beach in so cal, so ive kind of been in the hollywood hustle and bustle all of my life. Please help!

Your parents are right not to take you to those so-called casting calls. They can smell the money grubbing liars a mile a way. If you can't even ask your parents for an acting class then you're out of luck because that's where you need to start. Your parents are the only ones that can help you get started. They need to pay for the class and take you to it once or twice a week. You cannot start by auditioning for a movie. Those come after you've had training in acting classes, then you need to audition for theatre and build a resume, then you can try for some student and indie films, then you try getting an agent... Yes you can try for the one in a million open call when a legit one comes around but they really are one in a million or more. The vast majority of people who make it in the business do the work. Get into class. There are places in the OC, check out local theatres for classes and workshops. There are also some acting studios. I don't know how good they are since I've never studied there, but I do know the director and some guest teachers at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa http://www.scr.org/

Start with the training, work your way into theatre, and the rest will follow.

good luck,
Marianne

If you are in high school, if you haven't already done so, take drama. When you are in college, again, make drama your major. Often actors and actresses are discovered by scouts that attend plays put on by colleges, while they are looking for new talent. Also, go to the local theaters in your area and ask when they are having auditions. You can also do a google search for auditions in Los Angeles and Hollywood...etc. Just get out there and make a start. You will find people that can help lead you in the right directions along the way. You sound as though you may still be in highschool, in which case if your parents are not supportive in this area, then you may need to wait until you are on your own. But certainly...start by taking drama. Only the best get hired when auditioning.

No you don't ought to cross to California to get into appearing or to uncover a well appearing college. Usually in each state there are a few lovely well appearing colleges. If your quite critical approximately Acting Schools, you must uncover a well Acting Agent. Some of the quite well ones are actually retired Producers who begin up with their spare time publications. Just like Modeling verify out their beyond studies and what they're identified for...My daughter was once taught by way of a gentleman named Phillip Karr in Orlando Florida, his spouse is now going for walks the exhibit. But he labored in Hollywood for a long time as good as New York and the pupils had the hazard to honestly cross to LA and meet Producers etc.....Wish you the entire first-class....

What is this "1 in a million" statistic you're referring to? If it's the chance of becoming a "star," that is NEVER a goal to have. In acting, true success is not measured by fame or riches; it's just quantified by working steadily. [I know numerous Broadway stars, and though I'm not as rich as them I actually work more than they do -- so always remember that stardom can actually be a limitation.]

So if you want to act, just start auditioning. If you're in school, take a drama class, and do some plays there -- you need to start somewhere. Improvement in acting technique is quite easy to achieve simply by doing it repeatedly -- show after show after show, striving always to improve and learn and be your very best.

Stardom [if that's your dream] is never guaranteed, but if it does come it will ONLY be after you've done a lot of hard work and studying. Think about it -- stardom comes because of a hit play or film or TV show, and the only way to become involved in a major project is to have a lot of experience.

In the term "show business," the operative word is "business." Yes, artistry is important, but it is still a business and as such requires certain amounts of training and experience if you want to become part of it. It's a lot of hard work, but it's still enjoyable work.

Finally, if your parents don't allow you to take classes or audition for things, have patience -- you can do whatever you want once you're out on your own, and it's not that big a deal to start a bit later in life. If you don't start pursuing this until you're 18 or 19 or even in your 20s, that's not a big deal as long as you prove to be committed to working hard to learn fast.

Is it really acting you want to get into, or is it stardom? There is a huge difference there, I hope you realize. Some of the best actors will never be real stars, and some of the biggest stars will never be real actors.

If you really want to get into acting for acting's sake -- learning to really know someone else so well you can truly become that person onstage, delving into the depths of the character the author has written, working together as a team with your fellow cast members and crew to put forth the best product you all can, learning about all the aspects of theatre, etc -- then get into the theatre classes and clubs and productions in school. (I'm guessing you're still in school since you thought of asking your mom to find you an acting coach.) Go to the community theatre in your area and learn to work there. They sometimes offer classes and sometimes put on productions. Look for a children's theatre company in your area and see if they have classes and/or auditions anytime soon. YOU will need to do the legwork on this one, not your mom. If it's not worth your time to look into it, it's not important enough to you and you will never make it.

Please work on your basic acting skills as much as you can while you're waiting for auditions or classes, and work on being teachable, and on being easy to work with. All the natural talent and charisma in the world won't make people hire you if you earn a reputation of being difficult to work with. No director in his or her right mind is going to cast someone who will give him or her a harder time putting a production together. Be a team player, not a star-wannabe, and you will find people will want to work with you.
