There are hidden viruses. It happened to me. Your internet explorer would freeze constantly

doubt you'd get an actual virus but definintely tracking cookies & adware * stuff they can spy on your movements with. Trojans too. Download SPYBOT & ADAWARE & run them. They totally FREE! You can donate if you want.
They're fairly quick, easy to use & as long as you update every time, will really keep you clean. When they've scanned & you've deleted what they find, you shut them down so they don't hog half your ram like all the anti-spy software does.
They've found & removed thousands of tracking cookies, keystroke logging stuff & just general spy/malware for me over the last year. (they don't necessarily find / remove VIRUSes, just the junky stuff that you get from general browsing).
I run them about every 2-3 days but anything would help.

Some website can install spyware on your computer... which will slow it down.
Ads like you are talking about require you to sign up for sponsor products. Before you can get the advertised product... It's not worth it.

They will just lure you out and get your informations remember that is no free stuff in the internet and no one is willing to give out something to someone for free.

it depends what kind of add you click if it is one that comes up on a download or an instalation then no. If it is one that is on a website sitting on it. saying "click me" or something then most likely it is
