sum = 24
mean = 24 / 6 = 4

Median = (5 + 9) / 2 = 14 / 2 = 7

The median is 7.

The mean is 4.

EDIT: (I had to go pull my pizza out of the oven);
Solutions are like this:

Mean = sum / number of digits = 24 / 6 = 4

Median = number in the middle, but since you have an even number of digits, it is the average of the two middle numbers (5 & 9, whose average is 7)

to find the mean, you add all the numbers then divide my how many numbers there are.

-9 + -6 + 5 + 9 + 12 +13 = 24
24/6 = 4

so your mean is 4.

to find the median, you add the two middle numbers then divide by two.

(9 + 5) / 2 = 7

so your median is 7.

Mean is to add all the numbers and divide by 6 (because you have 6 numbers). Median is the figure in the middle.
