Do employers look at regular MBAs more highly than Executive Program MBAs? If you are a president of your own company and young is it better to go for the regular MBA or executive program mba?

Harvard does not offer an Executive MBA. They do offer Executive Education -- which are courses designed for those in the work force, but not to be used towards a degree.

Many top business schools do offer an Executive MBA. Wharton's is the best (in my opinion).

The executive MBA students generally have more work experience than the daytime MBA students, and are often executives in the companies where they work. They usually continue to work full time during the program. They meet year round every other weekend for two years-- often on Fridays and Saturdays.

EMBA programs at the top schools are taught by the same professors who teach the daytime students. Since EMBA programs are smaller, they usually do not have the same selection of classes available to the daytime students.

I taught the same class to daytime students at Wharton as I did to the weekend EMBA students. The quality of the students was similar and the material taught was identical.

EMBA programs are just as hard to get into as daytime programs.

Executive Education classes not intended for a degree are easy to get into -- though they are expensive.

Executive MBA programs are designed for people who have significant management level experience and who are still working and aren't going to quit work to go to school full-time. The courses tend to revolve around "where you work now, how do you...." whereas in a regular course you hear "in most workplaces..." or "the preferred model..."

Exec programs have classes scheduled around people having to be at work. They tend to meet in the evenings or on weekends and the assignments tend to relate directly to things happening at work when possible.

Instead of analyzing some make believe case situation for org behavior class, the eMBA would analyze some specific real situation where they are.

Some programs are open admission (provided you meet the minimum quals) but most are not. Some eMBA programs are harder to get into than the "regular MBA" because there are more people wanting in than there are seats.
