Be prepared. So many people audition and they don't really understand that they're doing it al wrong. When you audition are you prepared? Do you know the show and the role(s) that you want? When I ask that I mean do you know the story and your potential character's place in it? For instance, when choosing an audition piece you need to choose something that shows them you can relate to the character that you are hoping to get. If you wanted to play Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie, I would go in and sing I Want to go to Hollywood from Grand Hotel because it shows a chracter who has grad aspirations just as Millie does. It's relatable. It's something that Millie could also sing. There are other choices, but that's one good example. Same as with a monologue. Try to choose something that shows the same emotions or wants and needs that the character you want in the show has. You should know going into the audition what the show is about and what your place is in it (as your character). How do you help push the story along? What do you want and need during the course of the show? Show them that during the audition. Choose material that will show them that.

That's how you stand out. Not with some ridiculous hair do, or by dressing weird... which by the way you never dress in costume. You may dress to suggest but never in costume. If your character is a business person you might wear business attire, not jeans or a country print skirt.

When you find out what the next show is that you will audition for read the script, watch a film version if you can (remember there are almost always differences between stage and film versions) and listen to the score over and over again!

good luck on the next one, and don't forget to prepare!!!

Really try to shout so they can hear you. Also, pick a role that is kinda low on the scale so they think your not to greedy (but thats a suggestion.) about your role. Hey, a part is a part. Musicals are fun too!

Maybe you should do something with your hair. A wild hairdo, Afro, etc..
or shave your head.
