For all those that have slated me for being a YA and asking, I am aware it can be ages from start of contractions to baby arriving and seeing as how I'm not in much pain, just discomfort, I'm not flapping much!!
BTW, I am 40weeks + 4 days

More than likely you are NOT in labor. I would get to your Dr or hospital when your pains become more frequent, about 3-5 or even 5-7 minutes apart, if you have a sudden gush or steady drip of fluid which would indicate your water has broken, any bleeding that is more than just light spotting or severe pressure and the urge to push. The only way to be sure youre in labor if youre not familiar with the process already is to be seen by a doctor. They will monitor your contractions, check for effacement, dialation of your cervix and things like that. You should contact your Dr and discuss your frequent pain and discomfort also since it could stem from another cause. Trust your instincts, and remember, better safe than sorry. Good luck =)

Ive also been reading responses that recommend a bath to help with relaxation....I would STRONGLY advise against this due to the fact that in last stages of pregnancy, you run a much higher risk of infection if your water happens to break while bathing and youre unaware of it. Give your OB a quick call for the final verdict on the bath thing though. If anything, just to be on the safe side, invest in a shower seat which you can usually get at a drug store and try to relax in a warm, but not hot shower......letting the water run over your back may relieve some of the pain.

Ignore all those people bugging you about asking on here. There is nothing wrong with asking for advice or opinions. Anyway, If you were to call your doctor or midwife right now, they would most likely tell you to stay home, since it's 15 minutes apart. DO things that will keep your mind at ease from the discomfort. Try to take a nice warm bath and relax. Make yourself some iced tea, make sure your bag is packed and double check everything, do last minute touch ups to the babys room, or if your feeling up to it, make some dinners that you can freeze and use once the baby is here, or go for a nice long walk, maybe that will help your labor get a kick start. Goodluck!

Hi Little Bear - if you are still 15 minutes apart and this is your first baby then you probably have awhile until you really have to start to worry about getting to the hospital.

If your contactions are Braxton-Hicks then changing position will help relieve them - so if you are sitting at the computer - go lie down or walk a bit - see if they stop.

If they don't stop -
1) Start timing them for minutes between contractions and how long the contractions last. Call your doctor and give her/him a report about your contractions. Listen to the instructions she gives you!

2)Get your bag ready and in the car.

3) Have a little something to eat - when you get to the hospital you will not be allowed to eat anything if you are really in labor. Have some toast and tea or just a light quick meal.

4) Take a quick shower if you are feeling a bit grungy - it could be a long night and you probably won't have the chance to shower later. If you feel fine - then skip the shower.

5) IMPORTANT - if your water breaks - DO NOT do anything except go to the hospital and don't walk in - have your partner get a wheel chair and wheel you in. Let him clean up the fluid when he gets home later! Bring a couple big towels in the car to sit on and soak up any remaining fluid that might leak out on the way.

Good luck, hon! and don't worry about the idiots who have been slamming you - they are immature and obviously have never been pregnant - or even close!

Hi,

it sounds like your uterus is contracting - that would be a tightening sensation where everything goes hard - if it's still happening after a couple fo hours every 15 mins or so Im pretty sure it's not braxton hicks false contractions as they don't go on that long - it sounds like its maybe early labour - just keep it monitored and if it starts to get more intense then perhaps call the hospital or get someone to drive you there to get checked out.

All the best!
Sophia

WOW i can't believe how rude everyone is being! I'm sure if it was really painful she would call a doctor and not be sitting at her pc but she said it doesn't really hurt. I'm guessing its just braxton hicks contractions, nothing to worry about yet.
Congratulations on your baby and i hope you have a safe and happy delivery!

Sounds like it is starting. I would get my bag ready but not leave for the hospital until the contractions are 5min apart for at least 2 hours.

hi,
please phone your midwife immediately, with regards to how many weeks you are, this is prob the start of labour.
i had a sweep to kick start mine at 37 weeks, as you say, at first the pain is very mild, it feels as tho your about to start the worst period ever. sound as tho contractions are starting with an interval of 15mins.
time them for an hour or so (but phone ur midwife first as she may tell you differnt), they may say take a warm bath, and take paracetamol.
i was in labour for an entire week but only in early stages, and i dont know how many baths i had, but the water bill went up a bit!
once your contractions become every 5 mins or so (or your completely freaked out), get your bags and go to hospital.

baby is coming hun, one thing....dont be afraid to ask for pain relief, as i wont lie, but it feels as tho your squeezing a watermelon out of your backside!

good luck, and savour every moment of it, my babys now 13months, gone far to quickly!
xx
