Terrorists are terrorists. Does it matter what faith they pervert to further their agenda? Let's forget the fact it really can't be won, terrorism does need to be fought.

I like those that are unable or unwilling to answer. This as with most of mine is partisan based, nor was it meant to be specific to location. Some people just see things that aren't there.

No--because thee is no "war on terror." There should be--but there isn't. Iraq did not attack us, had no ties to al-Qaida or other terrorist groups, and no WMD.

Further, the Bush administration delierately withdrew much of the military presence we had in Afghanistan and has since refused to pursue al-Qaida. Instead they made an alliance with the dictator of Pakistan, who then formally gave al-Qaida sanctuary in Pakistan, where they have been free to rebuild their organization, training bases, and other resources.

THAT is NOT a "war on terror." Further still--we have had no attacks in the US since--nor even any credible attempts. Tht cannot be attributed to any lessening of al-Qaida's capabilities--the Madrid and London attacks prove that. Nor can it be attributed to better security-not wen the GOP andBush have refused to reform our immigration system so that our borders can be secured, and also have yet to institute any major reforms in our almost non-existant port security.

Al-Qaida's goal is not primarily to attack the US--and never was. Try actually listening to what they say--not to what the right wing says they say. There is no "defending them"--andI'm not--the only good terrorist is a dead one, as far as I'm concerned. But to defeat an enemy, you must understand them. al-Qaida's goal is political power in the Muslim world. We are targets only because they perceive our presence in the region as blocking their ambitions. That does not mean we should "cut and run" as the Bush administration claims anyonewho questions them is saying. What we do need to do is get out of Iraq, which is not the enemy, and go after the real terrorists. Which is not what is happening.

Not when we are the ones exporting the terror. I am for it if we arrest the terrorist exporting terror, in this country. That would be President Bush, Vice President Cheney and all their minions. And stop trying to pull God into this. He is totally disgusted with the use of his name for the reason of going to war. He never has blessed a war. Never will. It will be great when we all finally grow up. I am sure God would be pleased. So lets fight terror where it starts: the White House.

"Is the world sleeping":

Am not far from the Burmese border, in Thailand. Have met with and talked with exiting refugees. I hear 10 more monks are killed for every one [seemingly] known in the West. Killings, arrests and beatings are rampant. Does the West know about the Japanese journalist killed? The military shut down the internet and cell phones yesterday, so only word I am getting is via friends and other folks sending messages out via exiting civilians. One message, from a VERY good Burmese source whose family works at the airport, says that yesterday when the Junta leader took his wife, daughter, son in law and family to the airport (assuming also a lot of diamonds, rubies etc) to see them off to 'safety', at the last moment he too got on the plane and they ALL fled to Laos. If this weakness can be revealed to the Burmese people and monks, it would greatly strengthen their resolve and determination. Really tough situation. Monks are being killed in monasteries, and arrested through the nights, as well as their families.

Can someone contact maybe Voice of America, and relay this info in case they have a way to get on the radio over Burma? Or please send along to anyone you know that might be able to disseminate the message? Just a thought. Since the shutdown of the cells and internet, not much news getting out.

These people have risked everything for their freedom. Is the world sleeping? Maybe we - the free world, should think about getting some supportive news in?

Let's say for a moment that you're right and the war against terror cannot be won. Why fight?

BECAUSE IT DENIES THE TERRORISTS VICTORY.

If we surrender then any little piss ant will see it as their path to victory too. Then we will be guilty of providing NO protection at all for our children and not even trying to.

Thumbs down? Here get to know this phrase:

BOHICA

Bend Over, Here It Comes Again.

No. But you are catching on. You'll notice that terrorism nearly always has a "faith" or "religious" component.

I agree that terrorists are terrorists to a great degree but, yes, their religion in this case has a great deal to do with their terrorism. Unlike, say, IRA who finally settled into politics to work their problems out, Muslim extremists believe that anyone who isn't Muslim, and practices Islam they way THEY believe it should be practice, is evil. So, the only way to appease them is by converting to Islam and living a strict code of Islam. Other than that, they are willing to do whatever they must do to rid the world of "infidels." There is no compromise; there is no political solution.

Bush's war on terror would have more support if it looked like it was being waged on terrorists and not weak-governed oil rich nations.
The way Afghanistan was put on a back burner and Osama was declared irrelevant doesn't look like it is is going to be very effective.
A war on terror that actually went after terrorists would have more support.

I do not think anything would make this unholy war more popular. It was a war invented by Bush and Cheney and has now escalated into something entirely different. I don't think either side can claim it has anything to do with religion... no God would condone this kind of murder. None!

..followed by a war on extremise liberalism right here at home.

It's long overdo that the silent majority of Americans stand up against the whackjobs like Pelosi and Moveon.org, as well as the ultra cons who have hijacked our political system.
Mainstream America has been ignored for too long.

Probably not. It might have more support if it actually had anything to do with fighting terrorism or protecting the American people.
