I had the oil changed at Wal... and 2000 miles later the oil light comes on. If I turn the idle up on the engine it doesn't happen. Does it have anything to do with a sensor that wasn't reset at time of oil change.

Have you checked your oil level? You may be low. If the oil level is fine, you either have a problem with oil pressure (bad oil pump or clogged screen) or a bad sending unit. Have a mechanic (not wally world or anyplace with quick, jiffy speedy, tune, or lube in the name) check the actual oil pressure using a gauge. If it is normal, have them replace the sending unit. If it is low using an accurate gauge, most likely the oil pan will have to be dropped to see if it is the pump or screen! If you have to drop the oil pan, it is a good idea to have the pump replaced even if the screen is clogged!

It's a common PT Cruiser problem. I've driven with my faulty light for two years and just get the oil changed regularly except for today when the Wally World guy refused to change it due to some BS with the light.

Check your oil level, I'll bet it's low, and that can cause oil pressure problems. It goes off when you increase the revs because the pressure increases. It's been 2000 miles - so if WalMart only filled it to the low end of the range, you could have burned a half quart (or more) by now.

Don't wait - check it ASAP - and always make sure you check it on a flat surface to get an accurate reading.

Why did you put 10W-30 (a full mineral oil) in it when the owner's manual calls for 5W-30 full synthetic? The engine check light is probably a separate issue. You need to take it to a Chrysler dealer to get it checked and the fault codes reset. In my experience, local garages cannot work on these cars effectively.

no the service reminder pops up on the overhead console if equipped, and says perform service soon, better get that checked, make sure they put enough oil in it or check for a leak, oil lights are important to be looked at

How old is the car? is it high milage ? Could be the quality of oil you used or it`s low on oil. By turning up the idle you are indication a oil pressure problem. Again, thin oil or low oil pressure from a worn motor. Can`t allways blame Wally mart. Only cheap people go there and get what they pay for. They don`t only roll back prices but also IQ`s. You also should not be tampering with the idle on your fi engine.

If your truely concerned about your oil pressure in your car install (or have installed) an actual oil pressure gauge. You can install a "triple gauge" and you will know your engines coolant temperature, your alternator output, and your oil pressure.

Is it leaking oil ?

Some PT's have are not so easy to seat the oil filter, then they strip the threads, resulting in an oil leak.

Your level is probably low due to this. Get some oil in it, get a real mechanic to fix it, and make Wal-Mart pay for it - you may have to take them to small claims court.
