JK Rowling recently told fans that Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series is gay... I know he didn't have a wife, and that in the 7th book he has a close relationship with Grindelwall, but what were the other signs? Do you thing it was good idea for JK Rowling to tell the public?

i don't think jk rowling should have told fans that, it is pretty weird to let us know that after we finished the series, and if she really wanted us to know she would have put something about it in the book.

Her announcement was insensitive, selfish, irrelevant and unnecessary.

If Dumbledore never acted on his love for Grindelwal, what makes him gay?

J. K. Rowling has no respect for her fan base. Because if she did, she never would have tried pushing her own agenda on such impressionable, young minds.

Of course Dumbledore supposedly being gay was never mentioned in any of the books. Why? Because Rowling knew the books never would have sold as well. No parent wants an author introducing their children to such a sensitive subject. So why does she think she has the right to do that now?

Honestly i think it was one of her biggest mistakes. I am homophoic and from my point of view i would not of read the series if i had known. I think though that it was a spare of the moment thing i dont think she planned on anyone really asking her that question.

i have looked into this alittle and it does say that dumbledore was in love with Grindelwall. I always thought that dumbledore and proffesor mcGonagall had a little thing going on but i guess we were all wrong. I've read the whole series once and im in the procees of reading it again. I read the 7th one twice so far and i dont think theres any signs besides the fact hes never had a girl friend or a wife besides that i thought he was a lonly old man.

I have asked for answers on the very same.
Now some people are saying in the films a note was past?? to Grindelwall saying something about being Gay???
You can`t cross reference with them both as we all know JKR wrote the books then a film is produced that cant! put the full story onto film!
I just think it`s a sad day when a person who has made a Billion£`s has to try and make more from Gay Men/Women by saying what she has, maybe someone has said "let`s go for the Pink£/$" whatever it`s a very SAD DAY FOR HARRY POTTER!

I agree with a lot of people here.. it was extremely strange of JKR to go and tell us that he was gay, especially after everything was over, and he was dead. I liked to read Harry Potter without being bothered by their sexual preferences.. and even if he was gay, the public would've been less shocked if she just made it clear in the books.
I don't think Christian groups will get mad, like some people are saying.. I'm a Catholic, but people write about gay characters all the time. It's not too big of a deal, but it is as a devout HP reader. =D

I think she said it just to get a reaction. She didn't write dumbledore as a gay character intentionally. the rumors were started in fan chat rooms so she came out and said "yeah hes gay". I don't recall anything from the books that were specific enough.

I don't like to think of the HP characters in terms of their sexual preferences. The story was fine without imagining them from a sexual standpoint. It's neither here nor there that she told the public about Dumbledore. I finished reading all the books and was happy with them without any additional info.

I think I'll continue to view Dumbledore as the once dedicated and wise, Hogwarts leader that he was. I don't need to know his sexual preferences for closure.

If others needed to know that, great for them. Me? The stories were finished when I closed the last book.

I'm pretty sure she wrote the entire series without "knowing" that he was gay. I haven't even read the last two books...I'll probably finish them because I just want to have that feeling of closure, but Rowling never had much of my respect before, and now she has even less. Lol, not that it means much, but the whole series aren't even very original.

J.R.R Tolkein and J.K Rowling...? She tried WAY too hard.

This is just another attempt for attention. She's sad that she's losing the spotlight on her books that brought her out of poverty. "Done with the 7th book! Man, what can I say to bring the limelight back onto me?!"

I do think it was a good idea... I found it really funny to be honest with you. Now it really doesn't matter what happens, she can say whatever she wants, and fans just have to get over it... she made all the money out of the books so it's not big deal if fans do not agree with her.

i think it was.If she had released it later,no one would have cared at all because they would have had a new book to read, and if she released it earlier,no one would want to read it.JK did the right choice
