I bought two female bettas the other day and when I put them together the one bit off part of the other's tail. I was just wondering if the part that was bitten off will grow back?

Yes it will grow back
and yes you can keep female bettas together

However you will need to get another female, or one will dominate the other
a minimum of 3 is required that they can choose the so called peckingorder
Also a minimum of a 10 gallon tank is required as well

Hope that helps
good luck

The tail will grow back, just give it time.

As for more than one together...not so. I have had up to 5 bettas in a 35 gal tank and they did fine together. Always have more females than males. They can also go into community tanks, just make sure other tank mates have small non flashy fins. The male betta likes to be the most beautiful dragon in the tank. They also like to be in a well planted tank as they come from rice patties and water holding ponds.

Yea, the tail fin can grow back eventually, may take a while and may not grow back in the same color it was. Keep the water clean clean clean so no bacteria or fungus take advantage of the injury. You can use Melafix which is a mildish anticeptic (it's tea tree oil) but some fish react badly to it. Some, not all, female bettas can be kept together but those that haven't grown up together need to be introduced slowly, and they will nip and push each other until dominance is established. But some females are just nasty and vicious and need to be kept alone too so keep an eye on them.

Ok, in regards to some other peoples answers, you can put two female bettas together. The same thing happened to me. They fought like crazy, so I had to separate them. I have looked on many websites, and some say that fins can regenerate, and some say they cant. The wound will heal, just make sure you have them separated, so it cant happen again. Can the injured fish swim without his fin ? If it can, it should be fine.

"Females may be kept together or in a tank with most any community fishes, but provide plenty of hiding spots, as they have been known to fight, too."

You should never have more than 1 betta in the same tank. they will kill each other..Thats why when you buy them from the pet store they are usually 1 in a cup or they have little seperate tanks so they do not kill each other.
