Question

1. The difference of two numbers is trippled. The result is decreased by 1. If the lesser of the two numbers is 4, the result is 8.3. Find the greater number.

2.Kerry commuted 60mi per day. If she drives 30 mi/h, during the morning ruch and returns over the same route at 50 mi/h, how much time does she typically spend commuting each day?

3. Adam runs 8 mi every saturday and 1 Mi each of the other days. If he runs 8mi/h how much time does he spend running each week??

let a and b be the two numbers:

3(a-b) -1 = 8.3

a-b = 9.3/3
a = 9.3/3 + b
= 9.3/3 + 4

2)
v = d/t

time = distance/velocity
time1 = 60/ 30 = 2 hours
time2 = 60 / 50 = 6/5 hours
total time = ???

3)
total distance = 8 + 6 = 14 mi
times = dist/speed = 14/8 hours
