I am not an immigrant legal or illegal. I don't have family in Mexico and I've never even been there. Don't people take history in school? There were Hispanic people here before the Anglos got here and they've never left. We are now Hispanic Americans.

I'm not even going to report people like Cindy K or Tara J. I want everyone to see what kind of people we have here in this country.

Mr. Moo, I don't think there is anything wrong with being an immigrant. I am married to an immigrant from Portugal.

Mahmoud, my stepfather is Pakistani (and don't worry I know that you are Persian) and he is treated badly in this country. This is a fact, and does that make him ignorant if he expresses himself also? How does me asking this question make me ignorant?

Hi,
I think that to a large extent its a language thing.
The perception being...if someone is speaking anything other than English...Then they're probably foreign born and therefore likely to be an immigrant.
Then the next thought process is...If they look Spanish...they are likely to be, know and/or symathetic to illegal aliens who by the numbers is likely to be Mexican.
Many/most non-Hispanic Americans don't really differentiate beween immigrants from Mexico or other South American countries... They are often just lumped together as being South American and spanish speaking.
I think there's also a national wish for "Americans" to identify themselves as being an American and not a hyphenated American...

Hope this helps

Because most people dont' take the time to educate themselves. They listen to what the media and society says and automatically assume that kind of craziness.
This one is for Ashley who commented that whites were here first. Someone must not have been paying attention in history classes. The Indians were here first. So if you are not of pure Native American lineage, you my friend are also an immigrant. lol

well, i think it has something to do w/ the fact that hispanics are the largest immigrant group here in america, so most people just assume that all hispanics are immigrants. but i know that all arenn't immigrants, but i tend to assume they are if they have an accent or if they can't speak english at all, these are tell tell signs in any society of an immigrant. my dad is an immigrant and he has an accent. but i do know from american history that most of the southwest & florida were spanish colonies, and then the southwest was taken over my mexico once it wasn't a spanish colony anymore, then the US took it. and that is pretty much it

Thats not the way it works Mexicans want to be called Mexican-Americans, Columbian-Americans etc. There were Spainards in Mexico and aztec indians before they were called Mexicans but do not try to spend any dinero from Spain there. Anglos landed in North America before Columbus and that is a fact and the indians would still be living in teepees instead of running Casinos if we had not tamed them. I Mexicans conquer my beloved American will you call me a Anglo-mexican? have a nice day.

I believe some people think that because so many Hispanics are coming to the United States, and some are causing trouble. This aggitates Americans, and they start jumping to conclusions. I'm sure that you are a fine person, however.
