Western Digital. Too lazy to get the model number. Just curious to see if anyone has had this problem in the past or has had experience. I have the shell in the open within 3 feet of my ear so I hear all the pops and churns it does. The hard drive this morning is making more of a popcorn noise when loading data. It sounds like static + popcorn popping but I dont smell anything, see anything, or hear anything else other than the noise. I have 2, and one is about 1 year old and the other is a few months and both Western Digital.

Ive got thermal take case, thermal take PSU that is well enough power to power the whole system and intel MB with 4 gigs ram. I am open for opinions. Networking is my strong point but hardware I slack on. :-)

You'll probably be more aware of the harddrive's noise now that the case is off, and it's close to your ear. WD's are usually pretty quiet. Maybe you better do a backup, to disk, just in case one, or more harddrive's are 'going south for the winter',(and ain't takin' you along!) By the time you smell something, IT'S ALL OVER!

This is very normal. Mechanical hard drives usually make a lot of noise.

Typical hard drive noise. When you hear a lot of clicking is when there is cause for concern.

Hi. Chickster is right. the drive may out live you, but I don't think so. Copy any valuable files to another disk.
