A good indicator that all is well is feeling fetal movements. At 18 weeks you might not have felt this yet, and that's normal. Some women don't feel the first movements until 20 weeks or later.

I know it's great to be out of the first trimester miscarriage worry, but it's also hard in this "middle time" when you also haven't felt movements yet.

I'm 16 weeks so I know how you feel. Like you, my only symptoms right now are a little pooch, a big appetite and gas. Pretty much the only thing is to call your doctor if you ever lose ALL your pregnancy symptoms for several consecutive days.

Until then, you will hear the baby's heartbeat at your next visit....and soon after you will start feeling regular movements.

In the rare event that your baby had stopped growing, you wouldn't know for a while. If the baby actually died, eventually you would because of cramping and then early labor/stillbirth.

Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Do the same for me? Congrats on your pregnancy, hon.

The bottom line is, you probably wouldn't know. Sorry, I know it's not reassuring. But that's the way it is. Until you start feeling regular, daily movement, you really can never be sure. But you have to assume that the baby is fine. They check on it at every office visit to make sure your uterus is growing and that the baby has a heartbeat.

Every woman goes through this anxiety to some degree, wondering if everything is ok because you aren't feeling anything yet and you just don't know. Just remind yourself that since you're past that 12 week point your odds of having a miscarriage / stillbirth are very very low. Odds are on your side that your baby is just fine.

Good luck!

Sounds like everything should be OK with you Hun... If the doc doesn't have any concerns and you have been keeping up with your check ups and stuff.. Have you had your ultrasound yet? , If not that will make u feel better seeing your lil baby swimming around and all. I am sorry , I cant comment about the weight thing..I am American and I have no clue how much 9 1/2 stone is, lol
If you really have serious concerns, just talk to your doc =)

First, don't worry too much. I felt the same way because everyone else's babies were moving around constantly and mine did not move until 22 weeks. Some take longer than others.
As far as signs that the baby stopped growing, you would have some bleeding and cramping.
Don't worry, he/she is probably just a late bloomer.

if this is your 1st pregnancy you may not feel much movement at all until 20 weeks or later. your appetite doent really have much to do about how much your baby is growing. Of course if you arent getting enough nutrients your baby could be small, but your appetite itself wouldnt have anything to do with whether the baby is growing properly or not.
If you are truely worried about it ask your doctor for an ultrasound.
They are pretty standard at this stage of pregnancy anyways to check growth and to check for congenital defects.

Especially if it is your first baby, the fetal movement s may just seem like "flutters" to you since it is a new sensation to you.
It is hard to tell from the outside if baby's growth has stopped. Your next ultra sound should help, and if you are worried in the mean time I would go to the ER.
Good luck and best wishes!

My baby stopped growing at 18 weeks and died in utero. The symptoms are:

no fetal pulse
no fetal movement
cramping

I was induced for a still birth.

Your problem is not about the baby not growing. In fact you don't even have a problem. Call your doctor with any other concerns.

if you want your baby to move. drink some O.J. or something sweet. and go lay down. or put something cold like ice on your belly. your baby should move within ten minutes seven times. if you are worry go to your doctor and request nonstress test. ASAP. make sure the baby is moving and kicking every 12 hours. the best advice is your doctor.
