I'm sure most people don't have time to really see our congress in action or know the background activities that lead to their results. To me, the polls only mean that congress isn't achieving what the people who are being polled want, but they have no idea why.

The Democratic led congress has been putting forth a lot of effort and working many more hours than the last congress. I don't agree with everything they do but I can't say they aren't trying.

I think it depends on how you ask the question.

Congress has traditionally had very low popularity ratings, but people usually love their own congressman and senators. In fact many congressmen and senators run against Congress as a whole!

These days Democrats are disappointed with Congress because they haven't been able to keep Bush in check or to end the war. If you ask the question about Congress in general, people on both sides will vote unfavorably, but if you ask by party people will be more critical of the other party than their own.

Republican spin-doctors like to point out low polls for Congress, so they probably pick the lowest and report them as typical.

I don't trust polls from ANY news organization since they are biased. Those poll numbers are garbage!

Check out The Rasmussen Group. It is unbiased and more accurate.

According to the Rasmussen group, "Only 11% of all likely voters believe Congress has passed legislation over the past year that will markedly improve American life. That’s down four points from a month ago and down six points from Election Day in 2006. It’s also the lowest level recorded by Rasmussen Reports in this monthly tracking poll. Seventy-two percent (72%) of Likely Voters believe that members of Congress are primarily interested in their own careers. Just 11% believe the legislators are primarily interested in helping the people they represent."

You are seeing the result of relying on polls for ANYTHING . The answers you will receive all depend on HOW you ask the question. Politicians LOVE that aspect of polls.
If you are crafty about how you ask the questions, you can get the answers you WANT and report them as "news".
That is a major tool used by our biased media to change public opinion toward a direction THEY want.
It is up to YOU to be aware of this ploy and THINK (as your question indicates you have) so you won't be just another one of the fooled.
Always check out HOW the question was asked. Ask yourself: If the question were worded differently would the answers have been different? If the actual question asked is NOT accurately reported, be VERY SUSPICIOUS of the answers and the motivations of the reporter.

Polls are fuzzy math.

I think they prove nothing since they are rigged most of the time.
