Steve Yzerman he played with so much heart and he played for his team and not himself. he was the best team mate anyone could have.

Of the ones that I've worked with, it's between Yzerman, Granato, Drury (both of them) and Gelinas. Sakic is also very much a gentleman, but pretty quiet and a little more guarded than the others. Didn't really get to know him all that well.
I did spend a few hours with Milt Schmidt some 15 years ago and he was absolutely dynamite, but I can't say I know him well enough to dub him anything other than a very pleasant and accomplished man. Unbelievably courteous, however, and loaded with tales of yore.
Thought I should throw an old-school dude in there for posterity's sake.

This is what I love about hockey. There are sooo many classy guys it's tough making a choice. ( unlike other sports)I 've met over 50 NHL players and they all do great stuff. Fedorov donates equipemt to Russia so kids can play. George Parros donates his hair to Locks of Love, Teemu brought over all 16 of his childhood pals to watch him win the SC ( a promise he made yrs ago)and Rucchin for spending many hrs at the children's hospital. I can't pick just one. They sponsor blood drives and other charity events.

The classiest I've seen play in person is Joe Sakic.

also, why only 4 stars to the best answer? Telling me that right off the start means I'm not going to waste the effort. If you aren't going to value the answer...........why should I?

Dan Kordic? kidding...I'd have to say someone like Joe Sakic...however Gretzky being perhaps the best EVER is very very very humble and loves the game realizing that at one point he may have been bigger then the game but not letting that get to his head.

Beliveau is one of the two clear cut run away winners in this category, and he was correctly named, but how the heck does everyone somehow miss Gretzky here?
