Are you doing things that you normally would not do? Do you act differently around this guy than you normally would around others? Has your opinion about anything changed since you've been around him?

If you answer yes, you're being manipulated. If you answered no, you're not.

I think lots of people don't realize it is being done to them. I think it is life experiences around this happening to you that you get better in recognizing that someone is doing this. You become less gullable and niave. Then when you recognize it you can decide not to go along with this person's lead. You can also decide to call them on it and let them know you see that they are manipulating you.

Manipulation is an art form of sorts! I work with abuse reactive kids and they have learned and been taught these tactics. If he is telling you he manipulates people all the time, then don't buy a thing he says. Be very wary of what he says and asks for. He will give you every reason to believe only him, and can convince you that he is being truthful and honest. Someone whe brags about the fact he can manipulate people, do it without thinking about it. So you need to think about it everytime he opens his mouth.

I agree with Paula. If he manipulates others, he will manipulate you. On the same token, if someone lies to others, they will lie to you...or if they talk about others, they will talk about you.

And as for you being gullable or naive...sounds like you are also wise.
