so how come we didn't incorporate all of Mexico in the U.S.A. when we had the chance to do so,that would have been one way of getting rid of the illegal problem before it started. That would have actually helped us since with the mexicans being in the United States as it would have,it could have made them more likely to stay where they always have been because living under a U.S. economy would have been so much better for them and Mexico would get used to the rule of rule and democracy as well.

There were many Americans that wanted all or most of Mexico. Others were opposed to American annexation of Mexico (issues with imperialism, slavery, and Catholics).

The American negotiator in Mexico, Nicholas Trist, did not want too much territory, so he put California, New Mexico, and Arizona on the list of demands, but nothing south of that. President James K. Polk was not too happy with Trist's Treaty of Guadelope-Hidalgo, but Congress approved the treaty before Polk could anything about it.

The US entered into the Mexican-American War for land basically, however the land that we won in the war was mainly populated by Americans entering into Mexico to make a life for themselves. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo set what America would take and pay Mexico in compensation for its territorial loss.

There is no way you can place modern issues on a historical situation like that. It is a false argument that will get you no where. The lands that we gained barely had any population in them what so ever, that is the reason many people weren't looking to go there in the first place. Now, that situation has changed, but there are 160 years in between then and now.
