...I really got a good kick out of Corbin Bernson's most unsettling and psychotic performance in 1996's "The Dentist", as well as it's subsequent sequel; it was something I would have never suspected him to do, considering his previous acting repetoire...
...the same could be said for Larry Drake's over-the-top performance as the demented physician in the dark-humored 1992 horror shocker, "Dr. Giggles"; that was also totally unexpected of him, despite having previously appeared in the chilling and intriguing 1981 made-for-T.V. psychological thriller, entitled "DarkNight of the Scarecrow", or as a maniacal and sadistic gangster, in the "Darkman" movies (...most folks in the general public pretty much had him pegged in his better known role in T.V.'s 'L.A. Law')...
...as far as films, which are similarly based, as far as psychotic killers, who put up an innocent front...that is, until they're crossed, in some way, shape or form...my favorite is 1987's "The Stepfather" (...and it's subsequent sequels...as well as it's presumidibly similar, upcoming remake), starring Terry O'Quinn; now THERE'S one of the best examples of a profound, striking and upsetting 180 degree turn-about performance...
