I'm thinking about getting her a 55 gallon tank. Is that big enough or unnecessary?

Kudos to you for making sure he/she will have enough room to be comfy!!!
That's not spoiling him/her. That's giving him a good sized room. You wouldn't want to live in an itty bitty apartment, you'd want to have room to spread out. Same with snakes, they like to feel secure but have plenty of room to spread out. Give him/her some hides for security, and the tank will be fine. 55 gallons is the minimum size some experts reccommend for adult corns. The ideal size of a tank is one in which the snake can stretch out completely if he/she so chooses. That's about 55 gallons for a "tall" corn snake.
Don't put him/her in a 55 gallon until he/she is about a year old though. When they're little, it's much better to have a 10 or 20 gallon. Something to do with keeping them warm when they're little, its better for them to have a small tank so they can feel secure. But when they're big they really prefer a 55 gallon.
Hope this helps!

I agree with Jade.

A 10 - 20 gallon long is perfect for a hatchling/juvenile, but will need to be upgraded as the snake gets bigger.

At least a 30 gallon long will house an adult comfortably, but a bit larger is always preferred. If you give a single snake too much space, there is the chance of stressing them out. If you go ahead and get the 55 gallon, make sure there are a lot of hiding places. Odds are she will just hide out on one side, but then again it depends on your snake.

They really don't need all that room, as they spend most of their time curled up and hiding--normal snake behavior. Just have a lot of hiding places in something that large, and it will be fine. Neve cohab snakes--it causes stress. Keep breeding pairs in separate tanks and put them together only when breeding time comes around.

thats really not neccasarry.a full grown corn can easly go in a 20 gal "long" tank. but they do enjoy the room so you cant get to big of tank just to small. if you really like the 55 gal you could get it for her she will like it but its not needed. one thing tho if you get the 55gal and a 20 gal you could buy a 2nd snke or a pair of corns to breed in the 50 gal.

That's more than enough room for an adult, you'll be spoiling him/her. I always try talking people into a 30 long or larger for an adult. 10 gallon for a juvenile. Good Luck!

But a regular snake cage- you will NOT be able to find a top for the aquarium that is truly escape-proof!
